Charity Ball in Luxembourg raises funds to modernize rural libraries in the Republic of Moldova
The nonprofit organisation “Impact Moldova” based in Luxembourg hosted the second edition of its annual Charity Ball on Saturday, 25th of January. Over 100 people from Luxembourg gathered together at the Drescherhaus Cultural Center in Dommeldange, for a noble cause: supporting the project “Access to Education and Culture through Modern and Attractive Libraries”.
As a result of the organizers’ efforts and the generosity of the participants, a total of over €5000 was collected. These funds will be allocated to expanding the book collection, purchasing furniture, and equipping with the necessary technical equipment, 3 rural libraries from the Republic of Moldova.
His Excellency Alain de Muyser, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the Republic of Moldova (non-resident), also attended the event.
“It is an adventure—an adventure for Luxembourg—because until recently, we never thought it necessary to institutionalize the relationship between our two countries. And it is also a discovery. We are making efforts to engage our governments in fruitful discussions, and the message we want to convey is clear: yes, the Republic of Moldova belongs to Europe. (…) Today’s event is not about my presence here, but about the impact you have on the Republic of Moldova. Stay authentic, be proud of who you are, and teach us in Luxembourg about what you are”, stated His Excellency Alain de Muyser.
Carolina Dogaru, the president of the organization admits that organizing a charity ball in Luxembourg was no easy challenge: “The City of Luxembourg provides non-governmental organizations with access to venues for meetings and events at very favorable rates, which was a great help. It allowed us to organize a high-quality event in a wonderful location, at Drescherhaus Cultural Center.”
